Vietnam's registry of administrative procedures, the first step in the regulatory guillotine method, is speeding up business activity. Project 30, Vietnam's massive guillotine project, has already transformed the transparency of Vietnam's national regulatory system. See the USAID article here.

Syria launches a guillotine reform

On 19 January 2010, the Economic Committee of the Cabinet gave the green light to the new Regulatory Reform initiative in Syria. Supported by BESP, an EU-funded programme, with the participation of Jacobs and Associates, the reform will implement a range of actions in the area of competition policy, procedures for business registration and new and revised business legislation that will remove bottlenecks, reduce unnecessary red tape and promote transparent and fair practices for the Syrian business community Download the Press Release Here

Croatia takes top UNDP prize for regulatory reform at global event

A government regulatory reform program in Croatia known as Hitrorez or “the guillotine” received worldwide acclaim at the Capacity is Development Global Event for enhancing the country’s economic competitiveness, decreasing costs for doing business and including the private sector in the design of regulatory frameworks.

Scott Jacobs joins policy committee of Georgia Chamber of Commerce. The Georgia Chamber has invited Scott Jacobs to join the state's Business and Industry Development Committee in 2011. Mr. Jacobs will work to bring a pro-investment environment to the State of Georgia.

Republic of Serbia, Nov 19, 2010: The Serbian Government adopted a new Decree to establish a permanent RIA and Regulatory Reform Office in the Government. The RIA and Regulatory Reform Office will work on the further improvement of RIA and administrative simplification.

We have been writing about regulatory inflation since 1991. Heritage Foundation in Washington has released a report "Red Tape Rising: Obama’s Torrent of New Regulation" that confirms that the rising tide of regulation has not subsided. You can find the Oct 2010 report here.
